Notice of Race:

Barbados Sailing Week 2021

1       Notice.

The Mount Gay Round Barbados Race will be held on Thursday 21st January 2021. The race around Barbados will circumnavigate the Island clockwise or “Northabout”.

Coastal Races will take place on Friday 22nd January, Saturday 23rd January and Sunday 24th January. Starts and finishes will be in Carlisle Bay.

2. Rules.

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the current Racing Rules of Sailing.

The CSA rating rules will apply to CSA classes.

No national prescriptions shall apply.

In case of conflict between the Notice of Race and the Sailing Instructions the Sailing Instructions will prevail. This changes RRS 63.7.

3. Eligibility – Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race.

3.1 The Mount Gay Round Barbados Race is open to any type of monohull or multihull sailing boat over 20 feet.

3.2 Boats less than 20 feet may be accepted at the sole discretion of the organizing authority.

However,

  1. They should be aware that in the event of adverse weather conditions they will be among the first boats to be cancelled, and
  2. They may be required to have an appropriate safety boat in close attendance at all times.

3.3 The Mount Gay Round Barbados Race will have classes based upon length and type of boat (unrated). There will also be classes for boats with a CSA rating and boats raced single-handed and double handed. Boats with foils are eligible for “with foils” records and not conventional records.

4. Eligibility – Coastal Races.

The Coastal races shall be open to all classes of sailing boat including dinghies, kite surfers and windsurfers with smaller vessels racing entirely within Carlisle Bay.

4.1 The Coastal races will have classes for:

4.1.1 Monohull boats with CSA rating split into CSA Racing Class and CSA Cruising Class

4.1.2 Monohull boats without a CSA rating will be given a local rating which may change during the Regatta.

4.1.3 J24 Class.

4.1.4 Dinghy Class.

4.1.5 Windsurfer Class.

4.1.6 Kite Surfer Class.

4.3 Entry forms received after 12 Noon on Monday 18th January 2021 will incur a US$ late payment penalty of US$50.

5. Fees.

US$2 per foot length overall for Coastal Races.

US$3 per foot length overall for Mount Gay Round Barbados Race.

7. Registration and Briefings.

7.1 Participants are asked to pre-register on line.

7.2 Boats shall complete registration between 5 and 10pm on Tuesday 19th January and between 2:30 and 5:30pm on Wednesday 20th January at the Barbados Cruising Club office.

7.3 Skippers Briefings are shown in the schedules.

7.4 Skippers entered in a CSA rating class shall produce a valid CSA rating certificate at registration.

11. Scoring.

Coastal Races will be scored separately from the Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados race.

Participants will be allowed to discard the score of one race.

12.Berthing.

Participating Boats are invited to take berths in the inner Basin of the Careenage. A timetable of opening times for the chamberlain bridge will be published. There may be limited mooring facilities in Carlisle Bay and berthing facilities for boats in the shallow draft. Boats wishing to use these facilities should contact the organising committee online well in advance.

13. Disclaimer of Liability.

13.1 The Barbados Cruising Club Inc., Race Organisers and sponsors shall not be liable for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner/skipper or crew as a result of their taking part in races or any part of Barbados Sailing Week. Moreover, every owner /skipper warrants the suitability of his/her boat for the regatta.

13.2 The safety of a boat and her entire management including insurance shall be the sole responsibility of the owner/skipper who must ensure that the boat is fully sound, thoroughly seaworthy, manned by a crew sufficient in number and experience who are physically fit to face bad weather. He/she must ensure that all safety equipment is properly maintained, stowed and in date and that the crew knows where it is kept and how it is to be used.

13.3 The owner/skipper bears full responsibility for the conduct and good behaviour of their crew and guests for the duration of Barbados Sailing Week.

13.4 Neither the establishment of these conditions nor their use by the Barbados Cruising Club Inc. or by the Race organisers in any way limits the absolute responsibility of the owner/skipper. The crew is nonetheless advised to satisfy themselves as to the experience of the skipper and the adequacy of all safety equipment and insurance arrangements.

13.5 It is a condition of entry that the owner/skippers taking part in Barbados Sailing Week accept the disclaimer of liability on behalf of themselves and their crew.

14.Risk.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4 Decision to Race. The organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during or after the regatta.

15. Insurance.

Competitors are strongly advised to hold third party liability insurance valid for racing during the regatta.

16.Prizes.

Coastal Racing Series: Prizes will be awarded based on overall results in each class.

Mount Gay Rum Round Barbados Race: Prizes will be awarded in each class. Boats that win a class and break an absolute record (irrespective of whether that record was set going North about or South about) will win their skipper’s weight in bottles of Mount Gay Rum.
