Kiteboarding and WingFoiling Taking the Lead

The Kitesurfing and Wingfoiling Competition, one of the most thrilling events of Barbados Sailing Week, is set to take place on Saturday, January 18th, and Sunday, January 19th, 2025 promising two action-packed days of adrenaline and high-flying excitement.

Notice of the Race

On Saturday, January 18th, the spotlight is on the Kitesurfing Wave Freestyle Competition at the stunning Long Beach, a haven for wind and wave enthusiasts.

The format is for any board type to perform in the surf for overall impression, engaging with the waves and jumping with degree of difficulty separating competitors. There will be a three-person judging panel that will determine the judging format depending on the conditions of the day. They will communicate the information at the skipper's meeting, and the competition will be run as a single elimination event (if time permits, there may be repechage heats to be determined by the race organizer).

The action continues on Sunday, January 19th, with the Wingfoil Boarding Competition at Welches Beach in Oistins Bay. This relatively new and rapidly growing sport combines the agility of windsurfing with the freedom of kitesurfing, resulting in an exhilarating spectacle.

The format is a three-race full fleet series around a two-mark figure of eight course. If conditions are conducive and there is interest from sailors, there may also be a long-distance race and a freestyle expression. Variations to be determined by the race organizers..

Final registration and skipper’s briefing will take place from 8:00 am on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th January at the respective race sites.

Start times will be determined by the race administration based on weather conditions.
